Here’s everything you need to know about making the most of Erasmus Malaga

Why Choose Erasmus Málaga?

  1. Málaga has a Vibrant International Student Community
Malaga is home to thousands of Erasmus students every year, with international students accounting for over 20% of the student population at the University of Malaga (UMA). This multicultural environment makes it easy to connect with people from all over the world, whether you’re attending classes, joining language exchange groups, or participating in cultural events.
  2. Málaga is a Mediterranean Paradise
Known for its warm climate (enjoying approximately 320 days of sunshine per year), Malaga offers a perfect blend of beach vibes and city life. Imagine studying in the morning and spending your afternoons on the sandy beaches of the Malagueta or in Pedregalejo and El Palo- charming fishermen’s neighbourhoods just a few kilometres from the city centre.
  3. Málaga has a rich History and Culture
The city is a treasure trove of history, from the ancient Roman Theatre to the Alcazaba Fortress to the majestic cathedral. And did you know that the most famous artist of the 20th century, Pablo Picasso, was born in Málaga?

As well, we are justifiably proud of our internationally famous Hollywood movie star Antonio Banderas – a proud Malagueño who, in recent years, has contributed greatly to the city’s cultural landscape.

It’s not surprising then that Erasmus students often find inspiration in the city’s artistic and historical landmarks.

What Study Opportunities are available in Erasmus Malaga?

University of Malaga (UMA)
As one of Spain’s leading universities, UMA offers a wide range of programs across faculties such as Business, Engineering, Arts, and Humanities. The university has strong partnerships with international institutions, making it a favoured destination for exchange students.

Malaga is not just about studying—it’s also a really popular destination for internships, especially in fields like tourism, marketing, tech, and education.

  1. Tourism and Hospitality
As a major tourist destination, Malaga has countless opportunities in hotels, restaurants, travel agencies and in businesses like MALAGA BIKE TOURS & RENTALS. With a varied international clientele, we welcome international students to our team for internships of a minimum of two months. Send us your CV and motivation letter, then let’s talk!

How to find an Internship Erasmus Malaga

  1. Internship Agencies

There are plenty of agencies in Malaga to help find an appropriate internship for you, as well as securing housing and providing support throughout your time in Malaga. Of course, this all comes at a cost. MALAGA BIKE works with a couple of agencies. Contact us for recommendations.

  • Independent Search for Internships

In our experience, many interns have come independently- without using an agency. Researching businesses that are related to your studies and interests and sending out your CV and motivation letter can be a successful way to find the perfect internship.

In this case however, you will have to be more proactive in finding your own support network and also in finding accommodation.

Cost of Living and Accommodation

Malaga offers a relatively affordable cost of living compared to other Spanish cities.

  • Accommodation: Shared flats range from €250 to €400 per month, depending on location. Popular areas include the city centre, Teatinos (close to UMA), and Pedregalejo (by the beach).

SCAM WARNING! Never pay for accommodation BEFORE arriving in Malaga. There have been many cases of fraud with students finding out on arrival that the room or apartment they had paid for is non- existent.

Various Erasmus Malaga Facebook groups exist, where you can look for a room.

Also Malaga South Experiences (link further in blog) lists rooms for students.

If you decide to look for an internship independently- without using an agency- then you must secure your own insurance.
